Incorrect Bite

A problem with bites occur when your teeth, muscles, and jaw fail to properly function together.  An incorrect bite may contribute to broken teeth, jaw pain, and chronic headaches.  On the other hand, with a correct bite, teeth do not wear out and your facial muscles and jaw joint are comfortable.

What causes an incorrect bite?

A incorrect bite stems from your upper and lower teeth making improper contact with one another as you are chewing or closing your mouth.

What can I do to avoid having an incorrect bite?

Schedule an appointment with a dentist who has training in dental occlusion (the science of biting).  Not every dentist is trained in diagnosing and treating bite problems.  And have them evaluate the mechanics of your bite so they can assess your risk factors and design a solution for you.

At Brushwell Dental, our restorative dentists may provide the following bite management treatment plan:

  • Wearing a Kois deprogrammer to find your most relaxed jaw position
  • Reshaping and/or reconstruct your teeth with dental restorations
  • Provide orthodontic care to shift teeth in the optimal position

What happens if I ignore my bite problem?

Incorrect bites may lead to damaged and broken teeth, TMD issues, and chronic head and neck pain.  The earlier you correct your misaligned bite, the earlier you save yourself from future costly and preventable procedures.

If you’re concerned about your bite, schedule an appointment with our restorative dentist by calling (626) 288-8940.
